This checklist is designed specifically for solo travelers who are completely self-funding their trip to Japan. Follow these requirements if you are paying for your own travel expenses and applying without a sponsor or guarantor.

- 15, 30, or 90 days maximum for short-term tourist stays. The exact duration is determined by the embassy during processing based on your submitted schedule.

- The standard processing period is 5 working days from the day after the application is accepted by the embassy. However, high application volumes can extend processing times to several weeks.

Multiple-entry criteria
If you are seeking a multiple-entry visa (valid for up to 5 or 10 years depending on category), you must explicitly submit a Request for Multiple-Entry Visa Form during your application. You must meet one of the following baseline conditions:
Individuals who have traveled to Japan as a temporary visitor at least once within the past 3 years and possess sufficient financial capacity. Alternatively, individuals who have visited Japan and other G7 countries multiple times within the last 3 years.
Philippine nationals with verified high income levels. This extends to their immediate spouse or children when applying with proof of relationship.
Regular employees of listed corporations, top 1,000 revenue companies in the Philippines, public enterprises, or joint ventures with frequent travel records. This also includes recognized artists, certified specialists (lawyers, doctors, CPAs), full-time university professors, and government officials.

If an application is rejected, you cannot reapply for the same travel purpose within 6 months of the rejection date unless urgent humanitarian exceptions apply. The embassy does not disclose specific reasons for visa denials.
Frequently asked questions
Can I request a faster review if my flight date is close?+
The embassy reviews applications fairly in the order they are received. Processing speeds cannot be accelerated for individual travel dates, so you should apply as soon as your travel plans are finalized.
Why was my visa denied?+
Applications are rejected if they do not meet the embassy's specific issuance criteria. The embassy does not disclose individual reasons for rejections to prevent attempts to bypass the evaluation process.
Can I reapply right away if I am rejected?+
You cannot reapply for the same travel purpose within 6 months of a visa rejection. The only exceptions are verified, necessary travel for humanitarian reasons.
If I have a valid visa, am I guaranteed entry into Japan?+
A visa is a requirement to apply for landing, but it does not guarantee entry. Immigration officers at the border make the final determination based on your declaration and landing examination.
Why did Philippine immigration stop me from leaving when I have a valid Japanese visa?+
